( Finally! For more than two years we\u00b4re writing each other on \u201efacebook\u201c already \u2026 at the end a meeting in real life. PROF. IVAN KATCHANOVSKI (49) teaches politics at university of Ottawa\/Canada \u2026 alternative media (also Dr. Daniele Ganser) regard him as hero!<\/p>\n

The reason: Prof. Katchanovski made a survey on UKRAINE\u00b4s overthrow in February 2014 \u2026 blaming Maidan revolutionaries to be (mainly) responsible for the death of 104 protestors and 18 policemen. He accuses system media and authorities TO BURKE the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201eThis was an asymmetric war\u201c, Katchanovski says with high, nearly boylike voice. \u201eThe rebels were inferior to the state. They could only win by discrediting the government.\u201c That\u00b4s why \u201esecret snipers shot into both sides in organized way\u201c in order to fuel the conflict. President Yanukovych had to resign \u2013 it was the start of crisis with Russia.<\/p>\n

Ivan Katchanovski himself is from Western Ukraine, a pro Maidan stronghold \u2026 he places part of the blame for escalation on Moscow \u2026 and has had same conclusions as \u201eBellingcat\u201c regarding MH17, based on \u201emy own research\u201c as he emphasizes. Many of the pro Russian scene don\u00b4t know that. Alternative media didn\u00b4t mention some very important details: Like his statement, \u201ethere\u00b4s no evidence for foreign contribution\u201c. It\u00b4s surprising \u2013 especially because the internet quotes Ukrainian-Canadian scientist to be key witness for \u201ethe American conspiracy\u201c. \u201eEvidence concerning the event\u201c, so Katchanovski, \u201eshow elements of peoples revolution, coup d\u00b4\u00e9tat and Western-backed regime change.\u201c It has to be further investigated what did turn the balance.<\/p>\n

Mr. Katchanovski focuses much more on players within Ukraine; assuming the nationalists, possibly supported by oligarchs, could have acted alone. He doesn\u00b4t claim \u201eprofessional snipers\u201c were responsible.<\/p>\n

For the first time I do understand what Prof. Katchanovski meant when saying \u201ewe\u00b4re not too far from each other\u201c. My documented evidence points out that there wasn\u00b4t \u201ea big conspiracy\u201c. For ten weeks I\u00b4ve lived in a tent on Maidan \u2026 interviewing eyewitnesses, visiting crime scenes, collecting projectiles, illuminating bullet channels by laser \u2026 and finally analyzing my results with physicians, secret service agents and militaries. And now: Nearly six hours exchange of ideas in a side room of university corridor. Well, it\u00b4s mainly Mr. Katchanovski talking \u2013 unfortunately not in front of the camera, but without interruption.<\/p>\n

So he also refers to the fact that nobody has been sentenced so far \u2026 enlightenment stagnates, even more than three years after. Maidan fighters are regarded \u201eheroes of the nation\u201c which means to not be target of prosecution at all. Well, what I\u00b4m thinking \u2026 how could policemen be legally convicted in a situation they just tried to follow their duties? If such event had taken place in USA, probably state power would have been much more brutal.<\/p>\n

Our meeting in the Canadian capital helped me to get a much more nuanced image of Prof. K.\u00b4s work \u2013 better than everything what\u00b4s readable from cold texts. Still I can see the weaknesses of academic political science in general: Often there isn\u00b4t truth research in the field, no interviews, no tests. \u201eOur regular task is to analyze media content\u201c, Katchanovski says.<\/p>\n

But what to do if both \u2013 system press and alternative media \u2013 write nonsense? )<\/p>\n

Sorrow<\/p><\/div>\n

( * It\u00b4s an emotional debate \u2013 sorrow, anger, aggressiveness are part of it.<\/p>\n

For many West Ukrainians it\u00b4s about a new foundation myth … about defending sovereignty of their nation. Many East Ukrainians feel threatened \u2013 and don\u00b4t accept to be artificially separated from \u201eMother Russia\u201c.<\/p>\n

From my point of view COURSE OF EVENTS is very reasonable:<\/p>\n

1.) President Yanukovych\u00b4s deprivation of power was morally justified with the fact he would have ordered to kill (peaceful) demonstrators by using \u201esnipers\u201c.<\/p>\n

2.) In order to reunite the country, new leadership claimed \u201ethe snipers\u201c to have been \u201eRussian specialists\u201c, NOT Ukrainians.<\/p>\n

3.) The Russian side resisted offensively by claiming \u201ethe snipers\u201c would have been \u201eNATO agents\u201c.<\/p>\n

4.) In the information war which continuously rages in the internet, each side takes scenarios and signs they need.<\/p>\n

5.) Those who\u00b4re not participants or viewers of the information war, have forgotten the topic already.<\/p>\n

6.) For getting rid of president Yanukovych and for fighting Russia, the nationalists were very useful. In case they\u00b4re a problem for Ukraine\u00b4s integration into EU & NATO, history could be quickly rewritten again. In that case Prof. Ivan Katchanovski would finally get his international recognition. )<\/p>\n
